King Collegiate Academy Commencement Ceremony

Date: May 22, 2026

Time: 7:00 PM

Location: West Brook Performing Arts Center, West Brook High School, 8750 Phelan Blvd., Beaumont, TX 77706

Doors open: 6:00 PM

Regalia: Black cap and gown with blue, white, and orange tassel.  Only stoles and cords issued by KCA may be worn to the ceremony.  All others will be removed and returned to campus for pick up the following day.  Caps MAY NOT be decorated.

Attire: Graduation is a dignified event. Students should dress accordingly. Dresses, dress-shirts, slacks, and dress shoes are appropriate. No shorts or flipflops.

Parking: Free.

Regalia, Stoles, Cords, and Other Honors

Regalia requirements and specifications differ by institution.  Listed below is a brief description for LIT and a more detailed one for King Collegiate Academy.

Lamar Institute of Technology

  • Regalia - Black cap and gown with half blue, half white tassel.  Caps MAY be decorated.
  • Gold Cord - Received for high GPA.  This will be handed out by LIT staff as students check in on graduation day.  Cannot be worn at KCA graduation.
  • Teal Cord - Received for being a dual credit student and will be handed out by LIT staff as students check in on graduation day.  Can be worn at KCA graduation.

King Collegiate Academy

  • Regalia: Black cap and gown with blue, white, and orange tassel.  Only stoles and cords issued by KCA may be worn to the ceremony.  All others will be removed and returned to campus for pick up the following school day.  Caps MAY NOT be decorated.
  • Valedictorian - Highest ranking graduate in the graduating class.  Gold stole with "Valedictorian" embroidered on it.
  • Salutatorian - Second highest ranking graduate in the graduating class.  Gold stole with "Salutatorian" embroidered on it.
  • Summa Cum Laude, GPA 4.1 - 5.0 - White stole with "Summa Cum Laude" embroidered on it.
  • Magna Cum Laude, GPA 3.66 - 4.09 - White stole with "Magna Cum Laude" embroidered on it.
  • Cum Laude, GPA 3.5 - 3.65 - White stole with "Cum Laude" embroidered on it.
  • Honor, GPA 3.0 - 3.49 - White stole with "Honor" embroidered on it.
  • Military - Stole earned by students that have enlisted for military service.
  • NHS Hood - Light blue hood earned by members of the National Honor Society.
  • Teal Cord - Received for being a dual credit student and will be handed out by LIT staff as students check in on graduation day.  Can be worn at KCA graduation.
  • Blue and Orange Cord - Earned all required Community Service Hours, 120.
  • Copper Cord - Earned CCMR point for state accountability.
  • Black Cord - Earned for Advanced Placement (AP) coursework.
  • Gold Cord - Earned by the student awarded the President's Educational Excellence award.
  • Red Cord - Earned by students that make three or more Lifeshare Blood donations while in high school.
