Application
General Information
Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Collegiate Academy admits up to 150 students per cohort each school year.
Application Rounds
- First Round (Priority Status)
- Opens: First Monday in October
- Closes: Third Friday in December
- All incoming 9th-grade students may apply during this window.
- Applications received during this round are not subject to a lottery unless the number of applicants exceeds 150.
- If more than 150 applications are received during this round, a random lottery will be conducted in January to fill the cohort.
- Sibling preference will be applied prior to the lottery.
- Second Round
- Opens: Immediately following the first round
- Closes: Last day of the school year
- If the total number of applications (from both rounds) exceeds 150, a lottery will be conducted to select additional students from second-round applicants until the cohort is full.
- Applications received after the lottery but before the last day of school will be waitlisted in the order they are received.
Upper Grade Admissions
- Incoming 10th-grade students may apply and will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis, considering:
- Space available in the cohort
- Current coursework
- TSIA2 status
- Applications from 11th and 12th-grade students will not be considered for admission.
Required Admission Steps:
-
Application - Complete and submit the application found on the internet at kca.bmtisd.com. Applications will be reviewed by the Admissions Committee in January in order to determine final acceptance or denial of admission.
- Interview - Students that submitted a completed application will be invited for the interview process. During this time, parents/guardians will also be interviewed regarding their student’s college readiness and academic preparedness as well as the parent’s willingness to commit to the program and the student’s success.
- Summer Bridge - As an orientation to BECHS and LIT, an introduction to TSIA2, and training for academic success, Beaumont ECHS requires all students to attend the two week transition program called Summer Bridge. The program is a figurative, but sometimes literal, bridge from middle school to high school and college and is critical to every students' successful start to 9th grade. It is traditionally the last two weeks in July and attendance at both weeks is required.
- Signing Night - Each student and parent must complete and submit The King Collegiate Commitment to the campus at the end of the Summer Bridge program in July. This commitment helps to ensure the students and parents understand key aspects of success on campus.
- Apply Texas - Accepted students will receive a communication instructing them to go online and complete the Apply Texas application. This application is for our partner campus, Lamar Institute of Technology (LIT), and its completion is a required step for admission.
All required steps must be completed in order to retain a student's admission status. If a student is admitted and fails to complete one or more of the steps above, King Collegiate Academy will consider the student's admission offer to have been refused, and the student will be removed from enrollment on the campus. Failure to attend summer bridge without prior consultation and approval from the principal will result in dismissal from the program and the student will need to enroll in their zoned campus. A parent will be notified of next steps in the event this occurs.
Student Transfers - King Collegiate Academy does not accept student transfers that occur outside of the application process. The only exception to this is if a student is coming from another Texas CCRSM school and has completed a comparable number of dual credit hours as a KCA student in the same grade level. Any late admission must be TSIA2 complete before consideration for admission. If approved, a transfer will only take place at the beginning of the fall/spring semester. School administrators reserve the right to review, approve, or deny transfers on a case by case basis.
